as far as i know, the materials engineer exam is an accreditation exam by the dpwh for civil engineers who also want to specialize in materials engineering. in government projects kasi kailangan ng materials engineer sa government and contractor’s side to assure of the material quality used in the project.

what are the requirements/materials to be reviewed to take Materials Eng’g? it is none other than bt only the DPWH standard specification book and you can by it by order, review all the items number based on the scope standards of the said proponent (DPWH). The exam is on month of March and October annually. I have so many masters i got first is Structural Engr.,Safety Engr., Sanitary Engr., Geotechical Engr and lastly is the Material Engr. Be proud to be a Material Engr!!

Licensed engineer who opted to pursue in Materials Engineering can take this exam, normally Civil Engineer are the one taking this exam for almost all of the subjects involved here are for materials used in construction specially in Civil Works because of its vast array of materials. There is also materials involved in Mechanical but seldom in electrical. Reviewers can be found in any bookstores specially for geotechnical subjects, but if you are going to look for comprehensive reviewer, engineers from DPWH specially Materials Engineers have these things.

Meron talagang course na B.S. in Material Engineering, at kung me board exam man para dito, maii post talaga sa website ng PRC.
Pero kung ang ibig nyung sabihin ay ang exam na binibigay ng DPWH, di yun dapat naka post sa PRC. Mami-mis-lead lang tayo.
Yung sa dpwh, examination lang yun para sa mga Material Engineers ng Contractors para sa government projects. Meaning, pag pumasa ka, magiging DPWH accredited Materials Engineer ka na, pwede ka na as M.E. ng isang private contractor na me project contract sa government natin. Kasi ikaw yung pipirma ng monthly materials report at iba pang reports, kasi ikaw ung magka conduct din ng testing (pag wala kang lab.tech or assistant).
Civil Engineers lang din yung allowed. Ang exam ay every march and september. Filing of application is a month before d scheduled exam. Pag yung score mo is 60-79%, ME I ang tawag sa u. ME2 naman kapag 80 & above. Pag ME2 na u at me experience sa material sampling and testing, tiyak, maraming malalaking company (triple A contractors) ang kukuha sa u. Kasi pd ka ng pumirma sa reports for gov’t projects worth 100Million and above.

The exam sched is every 2nd saturday of March and September. Some of the venues are at DPWH regional ofc. 10, CDO City and R.O. 11, Dvao City.
Yung scope? tama, basahin at intindihin ang blue book, reviewhin ung subject natin during undergrad na Material Testing and Sampling. Dapat alam din natin paano mag Concrete Design Mix at pati na yung sa Asphalt. At kabisaduhin nyu kung paano ang paggawa ng Quality Control Program. Like 4 example, for every 10,000 kgs na RSB na gagamitin sa project (per size), ilan at ano ang dimension ng sample na isa-subject natin for testing at anong test ang dapat i-conduct? During concrete pouring, anong document/permits ang kakailanganin bago ang buhos, ilang samples ang kukunin mo, like that. Me mga field situations din, like, after 28 days, nalaman mo na bumagsak yung concrete samples mo sa testing, e yung kalsada na binuhusan mo, matigas na, ano pa ba ang pede mong gawin?
Paalala din sa mga nakapasa na: alamin kung hanggang ilang projects lang or anong limit ng contract amount ang pwede nyung pirmahan. Baka lang kasi ma-overload kayo at baka ma revoke pa ng BRS ang accreditation nyu.

thanks PAM for that great info…so it means na yung ME exam result sa taas ay hindi yan yung exam na conducted ng DPWH? and if in case i’ll take the exam dapat sa DP ako mag apply or mag file at hindi sa PRC.. tama ba? one more..every regional office mayron ba nito? or selected regions lang? lastly…saan ba ako makakasecure ng sinasabi nyung blue book? i really want and interested to take this exam eventhough limited lang ang aking oras pag nagbabakasyon ako dyan..thanks for the help and thanks in advance for your reply..

I guess, yung tinutukoy na result ng nag post is ung exam ng DPWH. Kasi sa pagkakaalam ko, wala pang Mat.E Board Exam ang PRC. (pls. correct me if i’m wrong).
Selected regions lang ang venue ng exams and sa DPWH ka talaga mag-aaply kasi sila ung nagco-conduct. Kaya pag taga dpwh ang mag-take, di valid ung accreditation habang employed sila sa dpwh. Pag mag-resign sila sa dp, pwede na, kailangan lang nila ipa re-instate ung accreditation nila.
Nasa abroad ka pala… Ang blue book na tinutukoy nila ay ang DPWH
Standard Specifications for Highways, Roads and Bridges (Volume II). Blue kasi ang cover (hehe). It can be purchased at DPWH Central Office, Manila. Yung copy nga namin dito (davao city), xerox lang. Pag me kakilala ka na me e-file nun, hingi ka na lang. Mas madali kasi basahin pag nasa monitor na kasi pd ma-zoom. I wonder, me E-book kayang pabili? And that, aalamin ko pa…

Examination for materials engineer is conducted by Bureau of Research and Standard under DPWH held every second saturday of March and September. All Civil Engineers (board passers) are eligible to take the said exam.
